JTM Arena #1: Fire Emblem (Game Over! Aidebit Wins!)
« on: January 11, 2015, 07:16:10 pm »
In times long past, two deities would clash against each other using vast armies.  One was the Goddess Naga, and the other The Dark One Grima. Their endless struggle waged on forever until one day Grima simply disappeared. Without the guidance of their dark god Naga’s forces overwhelmed the darkness Grima left and peace was restored to the land. Or so the legend goes. Not one being is said to know why Grima disappeared; Not even Naga knew. But some believe that he will return someday…

Pimp Willy slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he noticed was that it was loud. Too loud. All he could hear was shouting. Slowly he tried to remember what he did last. He remembered signing something.. and then everything went black. Clearing the mist from his eyes he noticed he was in a building. He tried to get up, but found himself bound to his seat.
“He… Hello?” He said weakly.
“No one’s here buddy.”
Pimp Willy looked behind him. There, seated a ways away from him, was a grim looking man. He looked to his right and saw another lost looking person. Looking around as best as he could he could see 15 other people in the room with him. As he was about to talk to the man next to him a loud voice suddenly
“I see my final victim has finally arisen.”
From the front of the room appeared a hooded figure. Skizzz suddenly screamed and passed out. The hooded figure sighed, walked over to him, and smacked him awake. As he was walking back Skizzz could’ve sworn he heard the hooded one mutter the word “pussy.”
“Now then… Welcome you poor poor fools. You have all unwittingly, and voluntarily I might add, signed up to become puppets in this game for which I, Bious, have been chosen to preside over!”
“Now to explain how this works I have prepared some papers.” Bious then took out a stack of scrolls and started reading from one. “AHEM… If you will look here in section 1A the basic premises to this is that you all are going to-“
“Oh my god too fucking long!”
“Is this nigga STILL talking.”
“BOO THIS MAN.”
Bious sighed and set fire to his scroll. “Prepare, attack, win. That is all you have to do to get out of here alive. Anyone who disobeys the rules I will personally kill. The last person alive will be let out alive and win the prize money promised to them. Who knows, I may give you more than you expected.”
The greedy combatants all cheered.
“But how we gonna kill each other without any fine weapons?” SAD asked.
Bious waved his hand. Suddenly a pile of weapons appeared next to him. " I've provided you with some weapons here, though they have seen better days. If you need anything else supply-wise, go speak to our Crafting/Construction Wench.”
A cute, short haired, red-headed girl looked up from a contraption that was smoking and smiled. She then gasped and threw the flaming ball down a nearby well. A loud boom could be heard.
“Anyway… Her wares will help you all survive... Possibly. She will also strengthen your weapons with enchantments if you pay her enough.”
“Pay?” Shadowdragon## yelled. “We came here to EARN money, not SPEND it.”
“If you want money I will provide you with baubles you can sell each day if you search for them. I’ll only provide them at certain times however. There is also the arena… if you feel lucky.”
“Now then, I believe I’ve gone on long enough. You all have a nice fight…”
Bious vanished, his grin being the last part of him to vanish.

As soon as Bious disappeared the combatants dashed towards the weapons. Once they gathered what they needed, they look around the empty streets outside, unsure of what to do.

Thanks for formatting the shop, it hurts my brain as it is. Could you also add an example, so we know for certain what "Fire 2 10%" all translates to?

Up for pairing, SAD?

This is gonna be a long game  ???

Kinda looking like that.

Also, two whole days for prep phase? I thought we were doing 24/24. Or should I say, I ASSUMED we were doing 24/24?

Name Might Crit% = Fire 2 10%

Actually, the entire header is:
Name Physical/Magical Might Crit% Effect Price Rank
so:
Fire Magical 2 10% None 2000 D(in Anima/Tomes)

If we mix the stick, the log, and the antitoxin, maybe we can use the ladle and brew our own moonshine, Blindknagg.

I Googled Australia x Canada and this came up.

@ForgeDigger What's the official way of pairing up? Any method is good by me as long as the balls don't touch.

I doubt we would, otherwise there'd need to be a ton of damage dealt in one phase to kill someone.

To pair up both players need to send that as their attack phase action. Both also need to specify which one will actually be fighting and which one will be the cheerleader. Also is that picture Hetalia?

SAD can you get back to me on teaming up?

SAD can you get back to me on teaming up?

If Alpha was running this game I'd be inclined to think your got "Radical First'd". Almost every post even pre game you were asking SAD to team up. I feel like you drew the short straw.

Or perhaps you got some kind of quirk where you know what classes some, if not all players are, and you want SAD to negate a weakness in your class?

You might have to wait til phase 3 before SAD replies to you.  Maybe you should think about some other actions before then?

OOH editing is possible.

I guess i might head to the arena to farm some npc's. Ain't got money for anything that's currently useful.

Does this mean only 3 players can battle NPCs in the arena at any given phase?  If so, who gets preference?  Is it randomly selected from all who want to enter or is order of actions resolved based on the player's speed stat?

Shop fixed, Player stats up, now sorting through the +100 PM's I got.

And since there is some confusion on pair-ups, let me explain them.

1. Both players send in a request to pair-up, designating the Sub unit and the Main Unit.
2. That attack phase, the Sub-Unit pairs up with the main unit. The Sub unit's action was to pair-up; the main Unit can do whatever they want.
3. Every time you are attacked or are attacked, as well as if you end the attack phase paired, your bond will deepen.
4. You are paired together until you decide to split, which will happen during the Prep Phase. Sub units can still do Prep-Phase actions while paired.

No, you (as a singular entity) only get three battles in the arena per prep phase. First come first served.

Both.

Ok I'm still confused.  I thought Arena request was an attack phase action?

From rules:
Quote
Only one arena request can be made per person per phase.

So as an example action:

Prep Phase:
Sell Gem.
Buy Healing Potion.
Forge Staff +1.
Equip Staff.

Attack Phase:
Request Battle NPC x 3 in Arena for 1000 Gold each.

Is that valid?  Then the NPC Battles get resolved in the following prep phase?

1. No PMing other players without our permission (coughgamercough).
No PMing other players without our permission
without our permission

How would one go about acquiring said permission? What are the criteria that need to be met in order to be allowed to pm another player?

Yeah that makes sense. I was thinking that it would be something along the lines of they let you PM one player per cycle of two phases or something, but you cant pm someone who is paired

Several reasons:
-He changed his AV to Sano, and now Team Bad Battosai needs to exist
-As people have pointed out already, SAD rarely checks in. By making multiple posts about teaming up I increase the chance he sees one
-Regardless of the straw I drew I've been talking about teaming with SAD before the game started, as you said. Nothing changed once the game started, so any role I got would be irrelevant

You mentioned picking SAD to cover a statistics weakness, but is there any weakness in my stats? Not many particular strengths, sure, but my stats are literally all 8 or 6. If I had a blatant weakness like having 0 magic (not firing shots, using you as an example) then pairing up with someone who could cover that hole would be logical. However, since I'm pretty all-around there's no need for me to pick a player based on stats.

If you mean unique abilities and not statistics, and let's continue the hypothetical that I know multiple people's abilities, then you're implying I just got lucky that the person I'd been trying to pair with before the game started just so happened to be the best choice in partner? That's toasty even by my standards. The only situation where my actions line up with me knowing abilities is if SAD has a badass ability and I got that information before I made my first post asking to pair up, which was before the game started.

Calm down twinkle toes. I made that theory before player stats were posted.

And while it is true that you have no weaknesses, there is another side to that coin. You also have no strengths. Now I dont have the drive at the moment to compare your stats with all 15 other people, but in that light you should still be searching based on stats since you dont exactly have an edge over many other players. You arent the strongest, the highest hp, the fastest, the hardest to kill, or the most magic resistant, or even the luckiest.

While I do concede in that my presumption of you knowing about other players from the get go does have some holes in it's logic, I do still think you have something up your sleeve. It may not necessarily be knowledge, but you have something for sure.

1) Thanks for the gif, that's fantastic

2) I'm aware of the flip side to my statement. Statistically I'm the average joe. I have the luxury of not having a pressing need for any specific stat. I can use both normal weapons and magic, I have decent defenses, etc. Since I don't have any holes I need to cover I can choose my partner for fun instead of for stat optimization

3) Fair point, I forgot to take time into account

4) On the "something up your sleeve" comment. Yes I have a dirty little secret, I'm not denying that. Everyone has those in this game, that's what makes it fun. A little insight into my head, having fun has slightly overtaken attempting to win in these forum games for me recently. Hell, last Skype Mafia PW was running it with secret roles and I claimed Jester day 1. Not because it would help the civs win (I was roleless civ and can confirm it didn't assist civs whatsoever) but because it was extremely entertaining. And it lets me get away with stupid crap in the future because I'll have a past of doing stupid crap

Quite certain of that are you? You claim to have a secret, but everybody has them?

I was almost certain that the sign up thread said
Quote
In addition, 3 of these classes will randomly receive class quirks, which will also not be publicly revealed.
Only 3 classes get a quirk. Otherwise the classes only vary in stats. Yet you claim to have something special. Interesting

Side note: How come we gravitate towards each other for early game banter, nearly every game?

Its mostly just based on what cards he has available, trying to avoid spending dust until he has a better feel for what type of deck he likes to use. With his free packs, he opened a Jaraxxus so he was trying warlock for awhile, but handlock and demonlock are both really expensive

Yeah I know nothing about Fire emblem, but SAD has a magic of 10 and str of 0, so that has to be a magic using class whereas Fuzz has 8/8 so thats got to be some sort of really powerful hybrid class?

My guesses would be Sad = Sage and Fuzz = druid? I dunno I can't find what a draco lord is, Paladins generally would be expected to have an even balance of stats as well assuming its the spell casting pally type, but Manaketes seem to have the same stats in both fields?
